I had a bit of free time on Thursday afternoon so I went to the Shaffer Fine Art Gallery in downtown Portland. It was a beautiful, open floor-plan gallery that had a great collection of original paintings, limited edition prints, and sculptures from nationally-acclaimed (and occasionally local) artists.
They had a special exhibit on display called Secrets of the Deep: The Art of Theodor "Dr Seuss" Geisel. Honestly, I've always just thought of Theodor Geisel as a very talented children's book writer/artist, as someone that had a huge impact on literature and pop culture. But the legacy he left on the artistic world was just as profound. The show had over 50 pieces from his 70-year career (some from his never-before-released personal collection). In my opinion, this dude's imagination, wit, creativity, and talent goes completely unmatched.
The gallery was located on 1st Avenue, just one block from the Willamette River. And since I still had time on my hands I decided to take a walk. I strolled past both the Morrision and Burnside bridges, through Waterfront Park, and visited the Oregon Maritime Museum (the last operating sternwheel steam tug in the United States) before making my way back to my car and back to work.
More to come . . .

Is the Waterfront Park where the tram up to the hospital is? For some reason it is sounding familiar.
