While driving around Portland the last couple of days, I kept noticing (and pointing out) all the beautiful flowers. I did this so often that Kristine suggested I check out the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens. So when it finally stopped raining Friday afternoon I did just that.
With more than 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas, and other plants/trees, this place was beyond gorgeous. There were lots of little paths and bridges to follow, enough to keep me busy exploring for a few hours. And wishing that I had a green thumb. And lived in a moisture-rich climate.
Crystal Springs Lake surrounded much of the garden, with a large fountain in the middle. And there were ducks, geese, and other wildlife everywhere. (Personally, I don't love geese. There was an unfortunate encounter with a goose in the mission field and I've tried to stay away from them ever since.)
But my favorite part? The little "Grandma Robinson" benches tucked away in all the nooks and crannies of the garden. I found a private little one on which to sit, read a book, and finish off the Diet Coke I just happened to have on hand.
After leaving the garden I decided to go see Battleship. It was a Friday night after all. I was really hoping it would good one. And to be honest there were a couple of bright spots, where they gave nod to the board game in very clever ways. But other than that it was a misfire. Pun intended.
More to come . . .

Grandma Robinson benches? Aw . . . So sweet.
I've been there! When we were on choir tour my junior year, our host family took us to the Rhododendron Gardens. Wow! Those pics sure took me back.
